About the Nunavik Youth Hockey Development Program

The Nunavik Youth Hockey Development Program promotes the importance of education and staying active.  The program is designed for students aged 5 – 17, and is a great way to encourage young Inuit to pursue their education while practicing and developing more than just hockey skills. 

Participation is free of charge but students are required to keep up their grades and become active both in school and in the community. Please click on the link bellow to see a video describing the program:

The NYHDP’s objectives are:

  • To encourage young Inuit to pursue their education while practicing in youth hockey
  • To train, qualify and compete according to the criteria of the Quebec Ice Hockey Federation
  • To train hockey coaches in each community participating in the project;
  • To encourage participants to keep up or improve their behaviour, attendance and performance in school
  • To promote the consumption of nutritional food products
  • To promote physical fitness and to initiate young people to do community volunteer work
  • Coordinate local Minor Hockey Leagues, Regional Minor Hockey Tournaments and Teams Selection Process to participate in National and International Hockey Tournaments
