The NYHDP has now reached the 7 year mark and it is still growing and going strong; an initiative which got underway back in the fall of 2006 and bringing much to Nunavik's youths each year.

Over 130 children aged eight to ten and representing 12 Nunavik communities were recently in Kuujjuaq to participate in the third annual atom tournament under the Nunavik Youth Hockey Development Program (NYHDP). The selection of the members of the five Nunavik Select Hockey Teams for the 2010 winter has been completed. These 5 teams are including the most deserving students-hockey players in purpose to represent the region and its youth hockey program during Provincial, National and International hockey events in the Québec City area. The selection was done by the NYHDP committee, who is formed by its coordinators, administrators, instructors and educators.

Now managed by Makivik, it is an initiative that receives the support of many regional organizations in Nunavik.
