Protocol - Hockey Department

 1.   Program Coordinator & Administrator:

→  Supervise the Direction of Hockey Nunavik; recognized as an associated region within the Québec Ice Hockey Federation and assure the liaison with the Federation

→  Supervise the Hockey Québec registrations of Nunavik players and teams

→  Work in collaboration with the KSB Educational Services in regards to the participants’ academic follow-ups and Selects tutorat

→  Coordinate and administrate the NYHDP and its Select program under Makivik

→  Schedule, organize and coordinate trips for the Select teams for different tournaments

→  Promote the NYHDP and its Select Program at the regional, national and provincial level

→  Provide assistance to local/regional minor hockey structure and tournament under the NYHDP

→  Schedule and organize visits to communities involved in the NYHDP by program personnel

→  Schedule and coordinate travels for the KSB’s Academic Coordinators/Tutors in regards to the Select Program

→  Schedule and coordinate travels for the NYHDP participants (LHTs, Chaperons and Students/Players) in regards to the Select Program

→  Schedule and coordinate travels for Hockey Québec trainers in regards to coaching and referee clinics

→  Coordinate the development and overview the program’s website (www.nyhdp.ca)

→  Make when required, the necessary representations so that each northern village of Nunavik hire sufficient reliable human resources for the program to be successful, Ex: local hockey trainers (LHTs), arena managers, youth recreation coordinators

→  Participate with the to provide recommendations to local minor hockey structures using background and field experience with the NYHDP; Ex: Kuujjuaq Minor Hockey Association (KMHA)

 

 2.   Regional Coordinator & Administrator:

 

→  Get all municipalities interested to participate in the NYHDP to pass a council resolution and to sign a Service Contract with Makivik for the delivery of the program

→  Assume the Direction of Hockey  Nunavik; recognized as an associated region within the Québec Ice Hockey Federation and coordinate the Hockey Québec registrations of Nunavik players and teams

→  Inform all municipalities about the program; its educational mission, protocol, rules, guidelines, objectives and events schedule

→  Coordinate for the proper information to be published on different regional websites and through news letters in association with Makivik, KRG and KSB, so that all municipalities and Nunavikmiut can be well informed about the program; its protocol, rules, guidelines, objectives and events schedule

→  Promote the NYHDP and its Select Program at the regional and local level

→  Assist in the coordination and administration of the NYHDP and its Select program at the regional level

→  Coordinate trips for the NYHDP participants (LHTs, Chaperons and Students/Players) in regards to the Select Program

→  Coordinate all Select sessions in regards to travels, local transportation and room & board while in Kuujjuaq

→  Assist in the scheduling and coordinating the municipality visits for all Instructors and Educators working under the program

→  Promote and assist local/regional minor hockey structure and tournament under the NYHDP

→  Schedule, book and coordinate trips/visits to communities to assist with local implementation and running of the program

→  Make when required, the necessary representations so that each northern village of Nunavik hire sufficient reliable human resources for the program to be successful, Ex: local hockey trainers (LHTs), arena managers, youth recreation coordinators

→  Participate, if present during Select trips and tournaments, in all activities surrounding the teams

→  Assist the communities in the proper implementation of the NYHDP

→  Collect Participants registration forms and commitment, including Parental Consents

→  Assure follow-up and make sure that the LHTs are respecting the Service Contracts (if appropriate)

→  Verify each on ice weekly reports on the nyhdp.ca website, supervise LHTs’ hours and verify that all the communities are following the NYHDP’s guidelines

→  Provide Select participants’ food and lodging cost to Makivik finance

→  Approve the reimbursements by Makivik finance for all permitted LHT hours that have been submitted by the Recreation Coordinators on the nyhdp.ca website; ‘on ice weekly report’

→  Make postings on the website (www.nyhdp.ca) for all “community visits”

 

 3.   Head Hockey Instructor:

 

→  Provide professional services with regards to the development, implementation and delivery of the Nunavik Youth Hockey Development Program (NYHDP), in the context of a Nunavik Crime Prevention Campaign

→  Provide list of drills for hockey clinics/practices planning on the www.nyhdp.ca website

→  Provide on-ice training to local hockey trainers (LHTs) while participating in Select sessions

→  Work with assistant coaches/instructor for all Select teams in all categories

→  Provide on-ice training to Select participants registered under the program

→  Provide on-ice training during community visits

→  Coordinate tryouts and training sessions under the Select program

→  Provide coaching for the Select teams

→  Implement and reinforce all program’s rules and guidelines while acting as a coach/instructor

→  Work in partnership with the Academic Coordinator and assist the Academic Tutor(s) with the students-players educational exercises when needed

→  Respect the Academic Supervisor(s) reports on all participants and act accordingly

→  Be accessible at the Kuujjuaq Forum while in Kuujjuaq

→  Promote Nunavik and the NYHDP while acting as a coach/instructor during Select hockey tournaments

 

 4.   Goaltending Instructor:

 

→  Provide professional services with regards to the development, implementation and delivery of the Nunavik Youth Hockey Development Program (NYHDP), in the context of a Nunavik Crime Prevention Campaign

→  Work under the coordination of the Head Hockey Instructor

→  Continue the development of a basic goaltending program and assure its coordination at the regional level

→  Provide goalie clinics planning in respect to the practices constructed by head coach

→  Provide goaltenders’ evaluation

→  Provide on-ice goalie training skills to some local hockey trainers (LHTs) while participating in Select sessions

→  Provide assistant coaching for the Select teams if requested

→  Work in collaboration with other assistant coaches/instructor for all Select teams in all categories

→  Provide on-ice training to Select goalie participants, registered under the program

→  Provide on-ice goalie training during community visits, including during stays in Kuujjuaq

→  Coordinate goalie tryouts and training sessions under the Select program

→  Implement and reinforce all program’s rules and guidelines while acting as an assistant coach/instructor

→  Work in partnership with the Academic Coordinator and assist the Academic Tutor(s) with the students-players educational exercises when needed

→  Respect the Academic Supervisor(s) reports on all participants and act accordingly

→  Be accessible at the Kuujjuaq Forum while in Kuujjuaq

→  Promote Nunavik and the NYHDP while acting as an assistant coach/instructor during Select hockey tournaments

→  Report to the Coordinators and Manager about any incidents that may occur

                        

 5.   Regional & Assistant Hockey Instructor:

 

→  Provide professional services with regards to the development, implementation and delivery of the Nunavik Youth Hockey Development Program (NYHDP), in the context of a Nunavik Crime Prevention Campaign

→  Work under the coordination of the NYHDP Coordinator and Head Hockey Instructor

→  Provide hockey session planning if requested

→  Provide players’ evaluation if requested

→  Provide training skills to some local hockey trainers (LHTs) while visiting the communities and while participating in Select sessions

→  Provide assistant coaching for the Select teams if requested

→  Work in collaboration with other assistant coaches/instructor for all Select teams in all categories

→  Provide on-ice training to Select participants when needed

→  Provide on-ice training during community visits

→  Assist in coordinating tryouts and training sessions under the Select program if requested

→  Implement and reinforce all program’s rules and guidelines while acting as an assistant coach/instructor

→  Work in partnership with the Academic Coordinator and assist the Academic Tutor(s) with the students-players educational exercises when needed

→  Respect the Academic Supervisor(s) reports on all participants and act accordingly

→  Be accessible at the arenas, at the gym or at school while visiting a community

→  Promote Nunavik and the NYHDP while acting as an assistant coach/instructor during Select hockey tournaments

→  Report to the Coordinators and Manager about any incidents that may occur

 

 6.   Recreation & Hockey Coordinator

 

→  Work under the directives of the program coordinators in respect to the NYHDP

→  Be the community leader in respect to the NYHDP

→  Respect all clauses specified in the NYHDP Service Contract

→  Understand the educational fundamentals behind the NYHDP, in respect to crime prevention

→  Put some emphasis on education and recreation for youth

→  Assure that all participants are students and that they have all registered through the school

→  Assure an adequate implementation and coordination of the NYHDP in his community

→  Supervise the Local Hockey Trainers (LHTs) so the weekly on-ice session are properly filed out and entered on the www.nyhdp.ca website by the end of each week

→  Supervise the arena manager so that the facility is always ready for the on-ice sessions that are proposed and scheduled under the NYHDP

→  Assure that the equipment provided by the program is well managed and maintained at all time

→  Assure to provide pucks, cones and whatever else is needed to properly run on-ice sessions

→  Provide assistance to his LHTs in regards to the preparation and delivery of practices and games

→  Provide assistance to his LHTs in regards to submitting adequate on-ice weekly reports on time, which need to be entered on the www.nyhdp.ca website at the end of each week

→  Collaborate with the school’s Principal(s) and Academic Supervisor(s) for the participants’ registration, school weekly reports and academic follow ups

→  Supervise the LHTs and assure that the weekly school reports and the online list of suspensions posted on the www.nyhdp.ca website are verified each week and that the proper decisions and actions are made in regards to suspensions or reminders

→  Respect all weekly school reports and give suspensions when needed

 

 7.   Local Hockey Trainers (LHTs)

 

→  Work under the directive of his Recreation Coordinator and program’s coordinators & instructors

→  Be a role model for the students-hockey players participating in the NYHDP

→  Respect all clauses specified in the NYHDP Service Contract

→  Understand the education fundamentals of the NYHDP

→  Respect the schedule put in place for the NYHDP

→  Be punctual and arrive prepared to run adequate practices and/or games following the program

→  Work in collaboration with the Academic Supervisor(s) and assure that the participants’ weekly school reports and the online list of suspensions posted on the www.nyhdp.ca website are verified each week and that the proper decisions and actions are made in regards to suspensions or reminders

→  Work in collaboration with parent and local coaches (if applicable)

→  Assure that all participants are students and that they have all registered through the school

→  Assure that all the participants who received and uses hockey equipment provided by the program have a commitment paper signed by at least one parent/tutor

→  Verify the participants’ weekly school reports and the online list of suspensions posted on the www.nyhdp.ca website each Monday morning

→  Provide by email, a report to the Academic Supervisor on all major actions taken in regards to the participants’ suspensions and reminders

→  Collect information from the Academic Supervisor in regards to specific participant and individual who may had good reasons to have failed in their weekly school report (ex: sickness)

→  Verify all hockey equipment provided by the program to make sure that nothing was damaged or left behind in the dressing rooms by participants

→  Instruct the participants how to properly manage and take good care of their equipment

→  Identify potential Select students-players and submit their names/information to the program coordinators

→  Take away all hockey equipments provided by the program, from the participants who are not using it and/or maintaining it properly

→  Verify and make sure that no equipment was taken home by the participants unless permitted by the Coordinator

→  Must make sure that all equipment is returned to the arena after using it for Select sessions and/or tournament in other communities (if applicable)

→  Address the participants who are not respecting the program’s rules and guidelines and act accordingly (Ex: suspension, reminders)

→  Report to the Academic Supervisor on any major action taken towards NYHDP participants

→  Make local FM announcement in respect to any changes on the ice schedule

→  Prepare practices according to the instruction and drills provided by the program coordinator and posted on the www.nyhdp.ca website

→  Adjust the practice level in regards to the age and skill level of participants

→  Assist his local Coordinator to submit the on-ice weekly reports on time on the www.nyhdp.ca website by the end of each week

 

→  Understand the fundamentals of the NYHDP

→  prepare the ice as early as possible at the beginning of each school

      year

→  assure security inside of the building

→  assure reliable staff; Ex: security, maintenance, cleaning, etc

→  assure adequate arena security & equipment maintenance

→  Respect the schedule put in place for the NYHDP; the arena should be opened at least one hour before the first practice or game, the dressing rooms should be unlocked and available at least 30 minutes before each practice and games, the ice should be adequately ready for each practice and game, the ice should be resurfaced when needed.

→  provide equipment storage space for the NYHDP participants (if

      possible)

→  make sure that the zamboni and other equipment are fully functional

→  keep the ice available and the refrigeration system running as late of

       possible in the spring

 

 9.   Team Manager (for local minor hockey structures, regional tournaments and Select teams):

 

→  Work under the coordination of the Local Recreation Coordinators in respect to the NYHDP, or under the coordination of the NYHDP coordinators in respect to the Select program

→  Work in collaboration with the Academic Coordinator, Academic Tutors and Academic Supervisors in verifying the participants’ weekly school reports if needed

→  Supervise the coaches and LHTs (if needed) to adequately prepare the team(s) for practices, games and other team activities prior to the regional games/tournaments

→  Assure the proper management of the team

→  Assure the proper coordination for the trip(s) in regards to travel, local transportation, food, lodging and other needs

→  Help to promote the NYHDP at the local and regional level

→  Act as a role model

→  Understand the education fundamentals of the NYHDP

→  Apply the schedule that was put in place for the team under the NYHDP

→  Assure that all team members and staff arrive prepared for practices, games and other team activities

→  Assure proper liaison and communication with the tournament’s organisation

→  Assure proper liaison and communication with the NYHDP coordinators

→  Manage the meal money and other expenses during the trip (if applicable)

→  Take care of the different game fees, referees, ice time, etc (if applicable)

→  Take care of gifts for tournament organizers and souvenirs exchange with opponent teams (if applicable)

→  Coordinate any equipment needs for the team (skates sharpening, tape, medical kit, etc)

 

 10. Coach: (for local minor hockey structures, regional tournaments and Select teams):

 

→  Work under the coordination of the Local Recreation Coordinators in respect to the NYHDP, or under the coordination of the NYHDP coordinators in respect to the Select program

→  Work in collaboration with the LHTs and Academic Supervisors in verifying the participants’ weekly school reports if needed

→  Work with the LHT(s) and assistant coach(es) (if applicable) to adequately prepare the team for practices, games and other team activities

→  Respect the system and game plan (if applicable) that was implemented by the program

→  Use the different drills designed and provided by the program on the www.nyhdp.ca website

→  Assist in the proper management of the team during the entire season

→  Assist in the proper coordination for the trip/tournaments (if applicable) in regards to transportation, food, lodging and other needs

→  Help to promote the NYHDP

→  Act as a role model

→  Understand the education fundamentals of the NYHDP

→  Apply the schedule that was put in place for the team(s) under the NYHDP

→  Assist in making sure that all team members and staff arrive prepared for practices, games and other team activities

 11. Select Team  Head Coach:

 

→  Work under the coordination of the NYHDP Coordinators

→  Work in collaboration with the Academic Coordinator, Academic Tutors and Academic Supervisors in verifying the participants’ weekly school reports on the www.nyhdp.ca website (if needed)

→  Work with the assistant coaches to adequately prepare the team for practices, games and other team activities

→  Respect the system and game plan (if applicable) that was implemented by the program

→  Use the different drills designed and provided by the program on the www.nyhdp.ca website

→  Assist in the proper management of the team during the entire trip and tournament if needed

→  Assist in the proper coordination for the trip in regards to transportation, food, lodging and other needs if needed

→  Help to promote the NYHDP and its Select Program

→  Act as a role model

→  Understand the education fundamentals of the NYHDP and its Select program

→  Apply the schedule that was put in place for the team under the NYHDP and its Select program

→  Work under the coordination of the NYHDP Coordinators

→  Work in collaboration with the Academic Coordinator, Academic Tutors and Academic Supervisors in verifying the participants’ weekly school reports on the www.nyhdp.ca website (if needed)

→  Work under the team’s head coach’s directives to adequately prepare the players for practices, games and other team activities

→  Assist in the proper management of the team during the entire trip and tournament if needed

→  Assist in the proper coordination for the trip in regards to transportation, food, lodging and other needs if needed

→  Help to promote the NYHDP and its Select Program

→  Act as a role model

→  Understand the education fundamentals of the NYHDP and its Select program

→  Apply the schedule that was put in place for the team under the NYHDP and its Select program

→  Assist in making sure that all team members and staff arrive prepared for practices, games and other team activities

→  Follow Hockey Québec coaching clinics organised under the NYHDP

→  Provide players evaluation for the Select Program

→  Report to the Coordinators and Manager about any incidents that may occur

 

13. Select Team Supervisor:

 

→  Work under the coordination of the NYHDP Coordinators

→  Work in collaboration with the Academic Coordinator, Academic Tutors and Academic Supervisors in verifying the participants’ weekly school reports on the www.nyhdp.ca website (if needed)

→  Assist the coaches to adequately prepare the players for practices, games and other team activities

→  Assist in the proper management of the team during the entire trip and tournament if needed

→  Assist in the proper coordination for the trip in regards to transportation, food, lodging and other needs (if needed)

→  Act as a role model

→  Understand the education fundamentals of the NYHDP and its Select program

→  Apply and respect the schedule that was put in place for the team under the NYHDP and its Select program

→  Assist in making sure that all team members and staff arrive prepared for practices, games and other team activities

→  Supervise the students-players whenever whenever they are not in the classroom, or involved with any team activities such as hockey practices or games

→  Verify that the curfews are respected by all students-players every night

→  Report to the Coordinators and Manager about any incidents that may occur
